Dr. Ramendra Kumar Chakarwarti has been active in theatre both in theory and practice for about two decades. He has completed his PhD in Theatre and Performance studies from School of Arts and Aesthetics,JNU on the topic “Avadhi Ramlila: Text, Performance and Tradition” in 2014. He has also completed his MPhil from the same department. His MPhil research was “Staging of Shakespeare in Post-Independence India in context of Alkazi and Utpal Dutt”.In the course of his theatrical journey, he has acted in and directed more than forty theatrical productions. Some of these plays have been staged in India and others abroad in countries like Japan & UAE. He has a vast experience of various forms of acting. In his work.
He has explored several areas such as the revival of farce in the contemporary Indian context, realism and modern theatre, evolution of theatrical choreography, exploration of tribal forms, dramatization of novels, and development of plays from multiple sources.
Dr. Ramendra Chakarwarti has conducted number of workshops for students and theatre enthusiasts in various cities and villages. He has also participated in workshops in London, Germany, Imphal and with many notable people from NSD and JNU). He has also worked at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.
